The Las Vegas monorail is “a mess” in terms of its flagging ability to repay its debts. It seems overly optimistic ridership and revenue projections are the culprit, but there’s a lot more detail in this story by Dan Seymour in The Bond Buyer, a public finance newspaper.

Paint it yellow and extend it to the airport.

My gosh. I knew things were bad with the Las Vegas Monorail Company, but I didn’t realize it was that bad.

I don’t foresee any ability to recover. Looks like projection for next year is it will totally, completely and utterly fail to even be able to operate. Because with the fares more expensive, that don’t amount to a hill of beans if you don’t have the ridership.

Hey, ‘Mr. I Team’ – congrats on your new gig. You might want to muckrake a bit as to how and why the monorail’s original plans (to go right down the Strip) morphed one fine day into what became the plan for the existing white elephant.
