Just one thing on Palin

We were watching Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s resignation speech on TV last night. Now, we’ve never really thought much of Palin, as regular readers know from our coverage of the 2008 election. We’ve always thought she has a very slippery relationship with the truth, as those recently released e-mails underscore. And Todd Purdum’s Vanity Fair story didn’t do much to change our view that she’s not really that bright.

But even we were shocked to hear her say this:

Life is too short to compromise time and resources… it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: “Sit down and shut up”, but that’s the worthless, easy path; that’s a quitter’s way out.

Yes, that’s the quitters way out … she said in a speech in which she was QUITTING her office!

God God, man. Add tone deaf to irony to her growing list of faults. She’s looking more and more like a Republican front-runner all the time.

What did I miss? Sorry, I was out having a life. (Jesus, you people waste a lot of time harping like old women…)
My summation — 1) Palin is a retard, 2) Steve, keep up the brilliant work, and 3) Bill, try to get the concepts of satire and irony. By the way, which word do you think I mispelled, “pseudo-intelligensia” or “irregardless”? Because the joke lies in both. You turd monkey…

I was attempting to makeg a point that these events one writes about here happen on both sides of the aisle. I would like more people to see that there is little difference between the two major parties and vote 3rd party and change the Country for the better.

In my humble opinion, if you want to run for a higher elected office while holding an existing elected position, you should not be able to fall back on the current job. These elected officals have a “contract” with the people that should be fulfillrd. Also, there is something to be said about “unseasoned” politicians…the seasoned ones have gotten us into the mess we are in!

necpa57 – I noticed you only listed Democrats . . . lets be fair here. So you’re telling me that any politician, Republican or Democrat, that runs for office or takes an appointment should quit their respective office before they run for another or make themselves available for that appointment. That’s like saying that I should quit my job now before I start applying for another one. We’d have no seasoned politicians if that was the case. National, state and local political brain drain would be incredible.

I think we lost a great Senator when Bob Dole stepped down from the Senate to run for president. He was far better suited for the Senate and I think the people of Kansas would have understood. For that matter, I’m glad McCain didn’t step down from the Senate to run for President.

My thought is if you can do the job you were elected to while running and then need to step aside if you win the new position or are appointed to a higher position then good for you, no matter the party. To just quit with no other explanation than I hate being picked on and I have a book deal is just ridiculous.

In not one instance did the persons mentioned QUIT their current elected position to seek a higher office. In fact, each and every one of them asked the voters to trust them in the offices they sought and then did not follow through on the promises made to represent.

The ingorance on this board is embarrassing. Steve, you’re completely correct on this post.

I’ll be blunt. Palin is a liar.
Palin is lazy and intellectually unfortunate. Palin is exactly what is wrong with the Republican party and why people like me have decided to become Independents. The moment McCain placed her on the ticket he lost my vote and I like McCain!

There is a big difference between leaving office before your term has ended to take another public, political and usually more influencial job, than to quit because the heat of ethics violations and the difficulty of leading a state in economic crisis is too much for you to take. She wasn’t facing impeachment, she just had to answer questions. For God’s sake, she could have been our Vice President or quite likely President (McCain being no spring chicken).

I don’t care what your politics are, her actions and intellect are not equal to the political stature McCain and, yes, the media have given her. Read the Vanity Fair piece and then a column today on Slate http://www.slate.com/id/2222523/ by Dahlia Lithwick. Palin is not a person we want in, much less leading, the national discussion on any issue. I hope she is done with politics so the grown-ups can reestablish the Republican Party as a voice of reason and bring balance to our country. My fear is that Palin will become another irritable distraction that devalues respectable conservative perspectives joining the likes of Bush, Cheney, Hannity, Limbaugh and Beck. We don’t need more intellectually bankrupt alarmists, we need more George Wills.

Steve: I am not about nuance. I am all about the truth.

sheckyvegas: Learn how to spell and then we can talk. Thanks.

Written by: Bill on Thursday, Jul. 9, 2009 at 2:11 PM

Steve – I know you’ve had to deal with Bill before, so you know you shouldn’t waste too much breath on him. He’s another of the “pseudo-intelligensia” who writes smarter than he actually is. Probably says “irregardless” a lot…

Yes, really, Bill. I never said I never attacked Palin for anything else ever in my entire life! I said only the central point of THIS PARTICULAR POST was her wacky slap at quitters, while she was quitting. For the record, yes, I think she’s dishonest and underwhelming in the intellect department. But that was not the point of THIS PARTICULAR POST.

You know, for a person who can perceive nuance the way you claim to, Bill, I’d think you’d be able to understand.

Written by: Steve Sebelius on Thursday, Jul. 9, 2009 at 1:37 PM

Oh really, Steve. So, if you were just concerned with her quitting office while stating that she does not like quitting, then why did you also attack her intelligence and her honesty? Let me refresh your memory a bit:

Steve-o: “We’ve always thought she has a very slippery relationship with the truth”.

Translation: Steve thinks she is a liar.

Steve-o: “And Todd Purdum’s Vanity Fair story didn’t do much to change our view that she’s not really that bright.:

Translation: Steve thinks she is stupid.

So, it is clear from your first statement that your second statement is not true. You were attacking her for more than simple hypocrisy. Perhaps Palin should be accusing you of dishonesty now…

Written by: Bill on Thursday, Jul. 9, 2009 at 12:11 PM

Come now, Bill, even you and your new friend necpa57 can see how ridiculous this latest assertion is. No? Let me clarify:

The people mentioned left their offices when they sought higher office or were appointed to new positions. No, I did not criticize them. But neither did I criticize Palin for abandoning the people of Alaska to run for vice president.

My criticism of her in his blog was narrowly focused on one thing: She blasted quitters, while she was quitting. That means she’s tone deaf to irony, or just plain dumb. That’s the extent of it. To be frank, I don’t live in Alaska, so I don’t really care if she stays or goes as governor. But her reasoning, such as it is, is highly suspect.

I hope that clarifies things for you, although I fear it won’t.

necpa57: And I am certain that Steve-o issued similar condemnations of their resignations and attacks on their character and intelligence. I will just do a search now on the blog for these Sebelius entries and post links. Looking… Looking….. Well, I am sure they are here somewhere…

To be fair, let’s list some others who have recently quit their position before completion of their term of office:
Janet Napolitano (D) Gov, Arizona
Kathleen Sebelius (D) Gov, Kansas
Rahm Emanuel (D) Congress, Illinois
Hillary Clinton (D) Senator, New York
Ken Salazar (D) Senator, Colorado
Hilda Solis (D) Congress, California

Obama should take note and quit, too.

Obviously the P is in touch with reality about as much as Michael Jackson. And has about as much political future as he does.

This morning her shill is going to sue all the left wing media which is more gasoline on the flame which has already consumed her. LOL at the circus!

All the more reason to remember that McCain had very poor judgement.
