Did Hannity really call on Ensign to quit?

We already know at least one right-winger, Michelle Malkin, has called U.S. Sen. John Ensign “a wretched dog” in light of Ensign’s workplace affair with a campaign staffer. And we know our friend Chuck Muth has slammed Ensign for his hypocrisy. But did right-wing commentator Sean Hannity really call on Ensign to resign on his Fox News Channel show?

Yeah, he kind of did. Sort of.

Baited by Democratic guest Bob Beckel, Hannity said this: “My answer is if you’re going to be a family-values candidate and a family-values politician, and you don’t live up to that, I think you should resign.”

When Beckel noted that Hannity had just called for Ensign to quit, Hannity’s lame reply was: “I don’t know where he stands on issues.”

But, presumably, if Ensign was a family-values candidate and/or politician, and he didn’t live up to that, he should resign, according to Hannity. And Ensign is a family-values politician, and he didn’t live up to it.

It’s a good thing for Ensign that Hannity is a blowhard douchebag who should never be taken seriously under any circumstances. To Ensign, we’d say what we’d always say vis a vis Hannity: Whatever he’s saying, senator, don’t listen.
