Readers, we couldn’t be prouder to announce that KLAS Channel 8 investigative reporter (and CityLife columnist) George Knapp has won a Peabody award, one of the most prestigious awards in broadcast journalism. Mega-congrats to the Knappster!
The award — which will be formally announced in a ceremony May 18 hosted by NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams May 18 at New York City’s Waldorf-Astoria hotel — was for a project titled “Crossfire: Water, Power and Politics.”
“This network-quality documentary by Las Vegas’ CBS affiliate was a brave, meticulous examination of a plan to pipe massive amounts of water from rural Nevada to booming Sin City and the potential consequences for ranchers, farmers, Native Americans and the environment,” reads the announcement on the Peabody website.
We at Various Things & Stuff know how hard Knappster and Channel 8 videographer Matt Adams worked on the stories, and how deeply Knapp cares about the issue. Not only is the award well-deserved, it’s a coup for Channel 8 and all of Las Vegas. And they’ll be in august company when they travel to New York next month, as Saturday Night Live, 60 Minutes, Lost, and The Onion News Network are also winners. (Hey, Knappster, if it’s not too much trouble, see if you can find out what’s going on with that island in Lost, OK?)
So, join us in saying congrats to Knappster, Adams and everybody at Channel 8. Well done, people!
