Room tax vote shows Assembly GOP split

Assembly Minority Leader Heidi Gansert may have voted for that room-tax increase initiative that Gov. Jim Gibbons included in his budget, but seven members of her caucus didn’t. And those seven include Southern Nevada Republicans Chad Christensen, Richard McArthur and John Hambrick.

But with 35 votes, well more than the 28 needed for passage, this bad boy now goes to the state Senate, where its fate may well presage future tax battles later in the session.

Steve,

How many of the Republicans who voted for this bill broke their pinky swear with Muth/Norquist over new taxes?

Gee, the GOP still isn’t getting it, is it?

In both Clark and Washoe counties the voters overwhlmingly approved these measures (I think it is called an initiative), and yet the stifeld (sp) seven are overriding the express will of the people as spoken through the ballot box. Man are those GOP people stupid (no, wait, arrogant) or what?
