Who knew that Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid had to be convinced to run for governor in 2010? We’ve been hearing from reliable sources that Reid is committed to the race no matter what. But that hasn’t stopped some folks on Facebook from creating the Draft Rory Reid page anyway. (You have to join Facebook to see it, but it’s free so why not? You can also check out pages for us at Various Things & Stuff, and CityLife.)
Curiously, his most ardent backer comes not from Las Vegas or Nevada, but Arkansas. Andrew Roberts of The Natural State is listed as the page’s creator.
But that doesn’t mean Draft Rory Reid doesn’t have some local support. Some familiar names appear among the 59 (as of this writing) supporters, including liberal radio host Doug Basham, activist Peggy Maze Johnson, teachers union deputy executive director Debbie Cahill, Edwards for President field organizer Karen Kostoff and College Democrats organizer Joe Alexander.
So far, there’s not a lot of traffic on the site, although anybody can join. A link points visitors to Reid’s own campaign website.
There are two glaring omissions on the list of supporters, however: Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, who has her own gubernatorial ambitions, and senatorial father Harry Reid, who might not want the ballot so crowded with family next year. We’re just saying.
