New show announcements: Coachella spillover and more
Eddie Vedder
A slew of new show announcements flooded our inbox today, half of them being what will hopefully be the beginning of concerts scheduled around April’s two-weekend Coachella festival in mid-April.
Florence and the Machine is the third Coachella act to get a headlining show at the Boulevard Pool at the Cosmopolitan. Her April 21 show goes on sale Friday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m.; tickets are $40. This is the band’s first public show in Las Vegas; it performed a private show at Marquee during the Cosmo nightclub’s opening week in late 2010. F&TM is also playing Coachella.
The Pearl gets in on the action with two significant bookings, both solo artists from huge 1990s bands. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam is up first, with an April 11 show. Glen Hansard of The Frames/Swell Season opens. While there’s no official release yet, members of the Pearl Jam Ten fan club have been sent information to register for a presale with tickets at a whopping $86 a pop. Vedder has been touring behind last year’s Ukelele Songs; he also composed the soundtrack for the film Into the Wild in 2007. UPDATE: According to the press release, $79 tickets go on sale Feb. 3 at noon.
Also at the Pearl: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds on April 10. $45-$100 tickets on sale Friday at noon. Gallagher was the guitarist and primary songwriter of British phenomenon/frequent Vegas visitor Oasis, which broke up when Gallagher defected in 2009. He’s also on the Coachella roster.
Information was released late Friday on another solo artist show — this time taking place downtown. Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus, with his band The Jicks (and opener Nurses) in tow, will play Beauty Bar on Feb. 25. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 the night of the event, and should be going on sale today here. Pavement headlined the first night of the Matador at 21 festival in 2010.
Portugal. The Man announced today an April 5 show at Veil Pavilion at the Silverton. That appearance is in conjunction with the Jagermeister tour PTM is headlining (with The Lonely Forest also announced as a participant). $20 tickets go on sale Friday.
