Electric Daisy Carnival 2012 dates announced

Given how details about the first-ever Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas emerged so slowly earlier this year, promoter Insomniac’s announcement today of the dates for the 2012 edition — to be held Friday-Sunday, June 8-10 — is a welcome sign.

For locals, this means continued bragging rights: Las Vegas will once again host one of the biggest music festivals in the United States — over 230,000 revelers attended last June’s event — and one of the most renowned in the global nightlife community, as our EDC recently nabbed the International Festival of the Year trophy at the 2011 DJ Awards. It also won favor with the organization Insomniac most wanted to impress: the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which praised both Insomniac and EDC attendees for being cooperative and responsible.

But don’t think the early reveal means you’ve got a leg up on the hotels. Nearby Aliante Station is already charging $1,100 for all three nights, so we assume the valley’s hotels been tipped off by their friends at Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. After timidly withholding any affiliation for last June’s event — and then watching all those Southern Californian attendees spend so much money at local hotels and behave themselves at the Speedway — the city’s tourism marketing bureau has now branded EDC one of its “Signature Events.” Which means people will be able to plan much earlier for EDC 2012 than they could before the 2011 version.

There’s no word on prospective talent for next year’s fest, or any further details beyond the presale that starts at noon, Tuesday, Nov. 1. A regular three-day pass will cost $215, with a VIP option going for $500. Single-day tickets will be available — as will additional festival information — at a future date.
