Pahrump to have its first gay Pride celebration
Rainbow warfare at Las Vegas PRIDE.
Apparently, Pahrump has gay people. Either that, or Southern Nevada Association of PRIDE, Inc. is feeling mighty ambitious. Regardless, the big ol’ ‘burb off Highway 160 is going to have its first-ever gay pride weekend Aug. 19-20, just four weeks before Las Vegas Pride.
“We hope this event to be the first of many more happy returns to Pahrump,” said Daniel Grevich, Chairman of Pahrump Pride, in a statement. “The Las Vegas Pride event draws approximately 10,000 attendees and each year that number keeps growing so it will be interesting to see how many people come out for Pahrump Pride. With Las Vegas Pride 2011 less than a month away, we think Pahrump Pride will be a great kick off event.”
“We are delighted to have the support of Pahrump and Saddle West [Hotel] in helping SNAPI accomplish its mission of educating the community by invoking, promoting and celebrating LGBT prideâ€, added Ernie Yuen, President of SNAPI.
The weekend won’t feature a parade, which unfortunately means we miss out on a Chicken Ranch float. However, DJ parties, drag shows, bingo and pool events will be on offer at host venue Saddle West. (All events are free except the bingo game.) For anyone who thinks Las Vegas version is Pride overload, this more intimate version may be for you.
